Students of Agoura Hills are under the jurisdiction of the Las Virgenes Unified School District. The district is comprised of four elementary schools (Sumac, Yerba Buena, Lupin Hill and Willow), two middle schools (Lindero Canyon and A.E. Wright), and Agoura High School. Agoura High School has consistently ranked as one of the best schools in the country by Newsweek magazine since 2003. A few options for private schooling are also available in Agoura Hills for residents who are looking for alternatives to public schooling.
As far as higher education is concerned, students have the option of attending several nearby college campuses, including California Lutheran University, Pepperdine University, Moorpark College, Los Angeles Pierce College, Santa Monica College, and two California State University campuses: Northridge and Channel Islands.
In terms of recreation, residents of Agoura Hills and the surrounding communities have access to a number of recreational trails throughout the Las Virgenes-Malibu areas. There are approximately 500 miles worth of trails throughout the region, giving residents plenty of opportunities to go hiking, biking, horseback riding and jogging. From Agoura Hills, residents can hike, bike or horseback ride into Malibu Creek State Park where hikers can get an unobstructed view of the glittering blue Pacific Ocean.
Agoura Hills isn't just a community for residents; it's also the home of some of Southern California's diverse wildlife. The area features a small but dwindling population of mountain lions, Mountain Kingsnakes, Southern Pacific Rattlesnakes, Garter Snakes, California Kingsnake, Copher Snake, and the Western fence lizard.
